The Kentucky Historical Society has named Louisville Water’s Waterworks Museum project as a 2015 Outstanding Education/Exhibit Initiative for history. Louisville Water was one of six Kentucky organizations/businesses to receive the honor during the Society’s annual meeting.  The Kentucky Historical Society’s education awards go to programs that have shown evidence of educational and historical value, have benefitted the organization’s community, and have displayed viable community support through public participation.

The Waterworks Museum highlights Louisville Water’s expansive archive of historic photographs (some dating back to 1860), films and memorabilia, and allows visitors to discover the company’s contributions through its innovations in science and engineering. Visitors can see original architectural drawings, pieces of original mains, meters and tools used to keep water flowing over the years, and a silent movie produced in 1938 showing the steam engines operating and mules cleaning out the reservoir. The museum also plays host to student field trips, utilizing a course of study aligned to Kentucky Common Core Standards. The entire site has been branded as “Louisville Water Tower Park” to highlight the more than 150-year connection between Louisville Water and the community. When you have a special event, why not think about hosting it at the museum?  The Tower Park has been fully renovated and offers various rental options and capacities, along with an awe-inspiring view.
