Louisville’s Much Ado: Always Dreaming and Project Win for Sewers

For the city of Louisville, the Kentucky Derby is all the rage with fun, fanfare and spectacular colts and fillies. This not-to-be-missed event is a race that runs the distance of one and one-quarter miles long, and it is run on the dirt racetrack at Churchill Downs. Colts in the race carry 126 pounds and fillies in the race carry 121 pounds. Taking place on the first Saturday in May every year, there are many hands involved in prep work. This year’s crowd drew over 158,000 onlookers. The Derby is the longest continually held sporting event in America. The event this year was a wet go around with rain and mud but ‘Always Dreaming’ took the win anyway. Way to go! But there’s also another win for the Derby City. This one is called ‘Project Win’; specifically designed to control sewer overflows and improve water quality in Louisville. The earliest sewers in Louisville were built in the 1800’s to drain storm water into a river or stream after a rain event.  When indoor plumbing became common in Louisville homes, a sanitary sewer became necessary to drain wastewater.  Projects to accomplish the most effective and stable drainage system for the city have been at the forefront of city organizers for many years.  Additionally-expected during summer-a major reconstruction project will take place for the city. A large expansion of the downtown Waterfront Park on the Ohio River banks will include a 22-acre site plan with the intent to increase green infrastructure. Residents can also expect the site to incorporate interactive features that will connect Portland and downtown, becoming a regional attraction for visitors to downtown in West Louisville from 10th Street to Rowan Street. The project has been years in the making and will enhance the quality of life for residents looking for an enhanced waterfront experience. It will also serve as an impetus for economic development and improved...

Sinkholes and Sewer on the Mend in Evansville

Sinkholes and Sewer on the Mend in Evansville

Evansville residents think it’s high time for repairs to be made to sinkholes in their neighborhood. The City has assured homeowners that along with sewer repairs, the sinkholes will be fixed, as well. For about a year, the community has been avoiding the mesh fence that surrounds the sunken area near a closed road. The new sewer line is expected to be fully repaired by fall of this year. The City has committed to making street repairs following the sewer pipeline enhancements. The community agrees that the sinkholes have been an eyesore and have not been in the best interest of the people that live in the area. The City has confirmed that the sinkholes were caused by a defect in the sewer line. When dirt populated the pipeline, sinkholes began forming. Currently, a new lining is being positioned from manhole to manhole near Delaware and Boeke St. The City intends to reopen these roads when all repairs have been finalized. Perma-Liner Industries has got you covered! We are pleased to offer you our best trenchless equipment with our Cured-in Place method for pipeline repair and rehabilitation. Jeffersonville Plans New Pipeline Project

Jeffersonville Plans New Pipeline Project

Good news for Jeffersonville! Our residents are in line to get a new combined sewer pipe for purposes of not only complying with the EPA, but to reduce backflow into Cane Run Creek.  The project will require 660 feet of sewer pipe and will separate sewer and storm lines as an effective strategy to reduce overflow concerns.  Residents should expect the project to be completed in approximately 4 months.  Both the City and Wastewater dept. are working together on this ground plan, and have confirmed it is the most affordable option after implementation.  The EPA has been talking to the City about making the necessary changes for approximately 6 years. Louisville, Perma-Liner has a product we’d like to share with you!  Did you know we have a Perma-Lateral lining system that can be installed in open end pipes?  This is the #1 small diameter pipeline rehabilitation system in North America! Sewer and Water 101

Sewer and Water 101

Summer is indeed here in all its glory.  We know that means rainfall is here, too.  In fact, in many parts of the country we have had record setting storms.  Precipitation can heavily contribute to an overloaded sewer system.  As a nation, we have over 700 communities that utilize combined sewer systems.  There are some Cities that have separate sewer systems but this is no small financial investment.  Even so, municipalities have the burden of making sure these systems are functioning. It can pose a health risk and even more financial strain if they are not. There are small contributions the residents of any community can make to keep overflows to a minimum.  With a combined effort, each small attempt will add up to bigger and better successes.  A few good suggestions are:  1. use less water during a storm.  Showering, flushing the toilet and doing laundry should be avoided, if possible. 2. Please don’t litter.  Strom drains can be affected when garbage is near and subsequently can raise the possibility of overflows even in dry weather.  3.  When in doubt of how to accurately dispose of household products, consult with your local waste management dept. 4.  You’ll save money on your water bill AND be a team player at the same time with a mindful approach to how much water you are using.  Also, remember to fix any leaky areas in your home. Perma-Liner Industries is here to help you.  Before a problem exists, we can repair and rehabilitate the pipelines in your underground infrastructure saving you time, energy and money.  Since 1999, we have developed state of the art equipment and we specialize in trenchless, Cured in Place Pipe that is eco-friendly.  Call us or go online to www.perma-liner.com to find out how we can assist...
